WHAT GOVERNOR LYNCH AND THE 2007 LEGISLATURE ACCOMPLISHED

The 2007 legislative session was one of the most successful in the history of New Hampshire. Governor Lynch and the Democratic Majorities worked together to make real progress. They kept their promises to the people by expanding healthcare, building the economy, strengthening education, protecting the environment and improving public safety. They did this without an income or sales tax.

Here is a list of what they did on our behalf:

HEALTHCARE

  • Passed a budget to enroll another 10,000 children in New Hampshire's Children's Health Insurance Program
  • Passed a law to allow children to stay on their parent's health insurance until age 26
  • Acted to eliminate the waiting list for developmental disabilities services over 10 years
  • Banned smoking in bars and restaurants
  • Acted to reduce lead poisoning in New Hampshire

EDUCATION

  • Passed key legislation to increase New Hampshire's graduation rate, and increased funding to support alternative education
  • Met the state's responsibility to define an adequate education
  • Increased state funding for local schools by nearly $100 million over the biennium
  • Acted to insure that every child in New Hampshire will have the opportunity to attend kindergarten
  • Expanded funding for early learning and head start
  • Significantly increased funding for the university system and the community technical colleges
  • Doubled Project Running Start, which allows high school students to take college-level courses right at theIr own local high schools, saving on future tuition costs

ECONOMY

  • A new research and development tax credit to help attract and maintain innovative companies and jobs in New Hamshire
  • A new job training fund to ensure workers and businesses can compete in the global economy
  • A new renewable energy plan that will make New Hampshire a leader in the emerging renewable energy industry.
  • The first increase in the minimum wage in 10 years

CIVIL RIGHTS

  • Legalized Civil Unions

ENVIRONMENT

  • Passed Renewable Energy Act to help ensure 25 percent of New Hampshire's energy comes from renewable sources by 2025
  • Banned the burning of toxic construction and demolition debris
  • Funded the Land and Community Heritage Investment Program
  • Made the first system-wide investment in parks since 1963
  • Passed new legislation to protect New Hampshire's shorelines

PUBLIC SAFETY

  • Increased the number of state troops patrolling the New Hampshire roads
  • Created an internet Crimes Prosecutor position in the Department of Justice
  • Acted to strengthen the state's dam bureau and to increase inspections and repairs to state dams
